World Kindness Day

We live in a world where conflict, tragedies, and criminal behavior are the fundamental focus of our news stories. These negative headlines are thrust upon is in countless ways, overshadowing the kindness of humanity.  

Kindness happens every day, whether we’re conscious of it or not, it happens! The chances are that you will have showed an act of kindness today, or been on the receiving end of one, in fact, as I’m typing Rhona approached me and offered me a slice of her orange, how kind!

World Kindness Day is here to inject some positivity into the headlines by celebrating the value of kindness, and promoting good deeds! Launched in 1998 by The World Kindness Movement, World Kindness Day aims to generate a kinder world by encouraging people to pledge an act of kindness.

Below are 20 different examples of kind acts that we can carry out.

Workplace

When you’re making a cuppa, offer to make one for anyone else who would like one.

Surprise a colleague with a nice post-it note on their desk.

Offer to help colleagues with their workload.

Arrange an office treat such as afternoon cake or lunch on the boss!

Ask someone how they are and really listen to the answer.

Environmental

Reduce your carbon footprint by walking or cycling.

Grow your own vegetables.

Collect rainwater and use it to water your plants & veggies.

Decrease the amount of time you spend in the shower.

Recycle your clothes, donate to charity or swap with friends.

Humankind

Tell your friends & family how much you appreciate them.

Give someone your parking ticket that you no longer need.

Put your spare change in a charity box.

Give blood.

Hold the door open for people behind you.

Creatures great and small

Make a house for hedgehogs.

Hang bird feeders to feed the birds.

Make a log pile perfect for burrowing animals.

Adopt an animal from a wildlife conservation organization such as the World Wildlife Fund.

Restore natural habitats by planting native trees or cleaning up beaches in your area.
